Pre-production

What pre-production? We're making this movie sans budget. So, pre-production involved writing a script and figuring out where we could shoot free. And finding folks who'd act for food and a credit and also help out with crew work. Needless to say, we didn't call SAG.
Production Day 1

May 12, 2001. Or, "living room day," since we shot both our living room scenes: one at Michael's, one at my place. Chuck ("Will") performed a scene in his skivvies. (Sorry, photos not available.) Michael ("Donnie") performed two scenes fully clothed. Chance made a cameo as "Power Company Guy." Stacey went out for pizza. A good first day out.

Production Day 2

May 16, 2001. Stacey had plans to leave town for England on May 18, so Michael and I picked up her scene (as "Janet") in the afternoon. Stacey's scene is short, consisting of three quick shots, and went smoothly. Between takes, Stacey went out for more pizza, so we're considering letting her and Donato's Pizza share a "catering" credit.

Production Day 3

May 19, 2001. Chuck, Michael, and I met at my place to finish up Chuck's apartment scenes. With Stacey in England, Chuck had to apply his own make-up. (Oh, the horror.) Chuck nailed his lines quickly. Michael handled "special" (term used loosely) effects while Chance taped the movie's climactic scene. Even without Stacey to bring in pizza, a good afternoon of shooting.

Production Day 4

May 20, 2001. Got up at 9 on a Sunday (argh) to give Chuck and Michael wake-up calls. They were a lot more awake than me. We met at Chuck's and journeyed to Roebuck to shoot Chuck's phone booth scene. (Know how hard it is to find an actual phone booth?) Chuck gave his best performance yet, with only a pay phone as his acting partner. Too early for pizza.

Production Day 5

May 31, 2001. Finally, we got around to shooting the movie's first scene, just Chuck in an office. We needed an office, and we found one in town. But, we had to sneak in after hours and shoot guerilla-style. Luckily, we had a man on the inside. Chuck hit his lines quickly, and we were in and out in an hour. Guerilla movie crews don't eat pizza.

Production Day 6

June 1, 2001. Patrick Sheehan is the man! Patrick signed on during the eleventh hour to play Lt. Gordon, our movie's authority figure. In less than 24 hours, Patrick read the script, agreed to do the part, learned his lines, and knocked out a terrific performance.  Also... my pizza theme has gone completely out the window at this point.

Post-production

Chuck and I started working on the first rough cut of The Seven Year Switch on June 2. We're editing on a PC using a surprisingly versatile program called "RexEdit." Our first couple of editing sessions have gone smoothly for the most part, and we're hoping to have the rough cut finished by mid-June. Keep your fingers crossed.
